Wildwood Park is one of the most popular parks for hiking and biking in Thousand Oaks and therefore, one of the busiest. It offers several miles of trails as well as picnic areas, a running stream and even a nice waterfall. Just make sure you don't go swimming in the stream because it is not as clean as it used to be! The trail types consist of mainly fire road type trails but there are some decent singletrack sections as well to break it up. And if you like switchback riding then there is pretty good one of those you can ride to get your fix. One downside of Wildwood Park is that it connects to the Hill Canyon treatment plant so sometimes it doesn't smell all that great but it's not often that you have to deal with it. You can also get to some trails in the Santa Rosa valley from here if you want to extend your ride and get away from most of the people that use the trails at Wildwood. Here are a few videos showing various trails in the Wildwood Park area. |

Wildwood Park Review
Wildwood Park is more of a beginner to intermediate place to ride but does offer several trails that branch off in different directions giving you some riding options. If you want to avoid some of the basic fire roads you can try trials such as the Lynnmere trail or the Santa Rosa\Lower Butte Trails which offer some pretty fun singletrack riding and tend to be less crowded. If you go on a weekday when there are not a lot of people around then you can even try the Moonridge\Lizard Trail which is not for bikes but is a pretty fun singletrack trail. Just keep in mind that you are not supposed to be riding on the trail and you didn't hear about it from us! And if you do decide to try it make sure to yield to any hikers since the trail if for them.
If you stay in the lower part of the park then it's mostly flat and wide trails with water crossings. Some of them you can ride over and others you may have to walk your bike. They should all have wooden platform type bridges so you don't have to actually go through the water to get across. If you continue on this trail you should eventually get to the Hill Canyon treatment plant and then start the switchbacks up to the top of the park. These can be a little rough when it's hot since they are kind of steep and go on for a ways. Plus hikers like this part of the trail as well so you will need to watch out for them. If you get on the paved road near the treatment plant then that will take you into the Santa Rosa trails.

To get to Wildwood Park all you need to do is get on Avenida De Los Arboles and follow it north past Lynn Road until it ends at Big Sky Drive. There is a dirt parking lot off to the left and there is usually enough parking for everyone. From there you can take a couple of ways into the park. There is an obvious main entrance that goes up a short hill or you can start right off at the forbidden Moonridge\Lizard Trail which is accessible from the left side of the parking lot. It's pretty hard to get lost so if you have never been there you can just explore and find things pretty easily. The map to the right shows the Santa Rosa\Butte Trail and will give you an idea of where Wildwood Park is and the other trails within the park are.
