In a world of Gatorade being the king of sports recovery drinks it's nice to see when the top dog has some competition show up. Sure there are other drinks such as Powerade but most of the time they are pretty much the same old thing. It's always good to drink some kind of recovery drink if you have had a long ride especially in the heat and only brought water with you. Some people like to add the electrolyte tabs to their water to help them out during the ride as well.

Yes we know this is not really a mountain bike component or something cool like that but we all know how important hydration is, we hope!

BodyArmor has been out for a while but they have changed their "recipe" to make it more appealing for health conscious people who don't want a bunch of sugar, salt and artificial coloring in their sports drink. It contains coconut water which is great for hydration as well as many vitamins as well as potassium. Its sweetened with cane sugar but not so much that it becomes more of a soft drink. It's not carbonated and comes in a bunch of different flavors. They use the potassium as the electrolyte component rather than sodium because we all know too much salt is not good for us and we get enough salt in all the other food we eat.

There are no artificial colorings either and the flavors and colors actually come from fruit juice. There isn't any caffeine or any other stimulants so it's not going to work as an energy drink except for maybe the vitamin B contained within it. There is no gluten either for those who are into that... or not into that.

The serving size of 8oz. which is half of the normal sized bottle. Here is a label from a 16oz. bottle. They also have a 28oz. bottle as well.

Compare that with a Gatorade Fruit Punch label.

Now for the important part, the taste. All of the BodyArmor flavors are good but some are way better than others such as the lemonade and watermelon strawberry. They don't taste artificial or too sweet like some drinks do. They are not carbonated either so you can chug them down pretty quickly if you want. If you have a nice cold one after a long ride they are very refreshing and you don’t feel like you drank something bad for you afterwards. They are pretty inexpensive as well and you can find them at places like grocery stores, convenience stores and even liquor stores. They even have a light version with less calories (about 20 per serving compared to 70) but we think the regular ones taste better and are worth the extra calories especially since the regular version is not high in calories to begin with. So try one after your next ride or maybe even during!
