If you live in a hot climate and like to ride during the day then you know how much sweat will be an issue, especially when its dripping into your eyes from your forehead. Sure your helmet pads will absorb some of it but usually not enough to do the job plus who wants their helmet pads soaked with sweat? And if you have no hair or a minimal amount of hair then the problem is usually worse.

To help you out with this kind of problem you should look into getting yourself a helmet liner. These are a type of "skull cap" that you wear on top of your head and then put your helmet on over it. They are designed to absorb moisture and by doing so keep your head cooler while you are riding and at the same time keeping the sweat out of your eyes.

We normally like to use the SweatVac brand helmet liners and they work great but decided to see if there was something better. So we tried a few other brands and really like the SPEG UV-Pro Cooling Helmet Liner. We also like that is it cheaper than the SweatVac! The SPEG UV-Pro has a similar design to the SweatVac but the material is a little lighter.

The SPEG UV-Pro also claims to offer UV30+ protection for people with little or no hair so you don't have to worry about tan lines in the shape of your helmet vents not that we have really ever seen that. It is made from their CoolDry fabric combines which is a combination of cotton and the polyester fabric making it very breathable. As for sizing it's a one size fits all liner and it will fit just fine if you have a large head.

When using the SPEG UV-Pro on some warmer rides we noticed that it does a really good job of keeping the sweat out of your eyes but just like any helmet liner there is always the possibility of it being overpowered by too much sweat but even so it's better than going without one. When you forget your liner and ride without one you definitely notice the difference. One nice thing about using one of these liners is when you stop for a break and take off your helmet and the liner and when you go to put it back on it will give you a nice cool sensation on your head if you can handle the fact that the coolness is coming from your sweat.

The real test will be how long the SPEG UV-Pro keeps up with the job of keeping the sweat off your face. We have noticed with the SweatVac liners that over time they tend to lose a bit of their absorption but that might be from frequent washing. And speaking of washing you can put the SPEG UV-Pro in the washing machine and probably the dryer but we prefer to let them air dry rather than risk shrinking them or causing them any damage from the heat of the dryer.

We have only seen the SPEG UV-Pro come in one color and that is white while the SweatVac comes in all sorts of colors. Then again you are wearing it under your helmet and white is probably the best color to keep the heat out so it's really no big deal. You can pick up a SPEG UV-Pro on Amazon for about $12.
